Mamdani Reverses Stance on Arresting Netanyahu

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has walked back his campaign pledge to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits the city for the UN General Assembly in September. After a legal review, Mamdani admitted that city officials lack the independent legal authority to enforce the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant, calling on the U.S. federal government to execute it instead. President Donald Trump dismissed the possibility of an arrest, affirming that Netanyahu would not be detained in the U.S., while Israel’s UN ambassador criticized Mamdani’s statements.
